    The effect of storytelling on emotionalization and memorisation of e-learning content in adult education

    This study addresses a research gap in adult education by employing a multi-method design to investigate the effect of storytelling on emotionalization and memorisation. In a between-subjects experimental design (N = 36 working-age adults), an e-learning course on data protection, with storytelling content or non-storytelling content was administered. Emotionalization was assessed using skin conductance response (SCR) and facial expression analysis (FEA), while memorisation was evaluated via free recall and recognition tests, complemented by perceived learning difficulty and situational interest. The storytelling group demonstrated significantly higher free recall of details but lower free recall of the topics themselves. Perceived learning difficulty was significantly lower in the storytelling group. While storytelling elicited less intense physiological arousal, there was a tendency towards more positive emotional valence and greater emotional expression in the storytelling condition, particularly with longer stimuli. These findings suggest that, in adult e-learning, storytelling specifically improves episodic memory and perceived learning difficulty, rather than general recall, especially for longer content.

    Media in Austria – Small Landscape, Big Influence
    (Instytut Dziennikarstwa i Komunikacji Społecznej, 2012)
    ;
    At the border to its large neighbour Germany lies the media landscape of Austria, a country with a population of over 8.4 million people. The linguistic and cultural prox-imity to its large neighbour has a decisive impact on the face of the Austrian media landscape. In addition to Austrian media, Austrians also use German media. They profit from the numerous public and commercial television channels they can re-ceive free-of-charge in their homes and they read German magazines. From an ownership perspective, the Austrian media market is to a large extent also ‘home-owned’. But there are also a handful of German co-owners who play a significant role. Media ownership and the reach of Austrian media can both be described as highly concentrated. There are numerous business and/or personal links between the owners of the major print titles. Thanks to the late introduction of commercial ra-dio and television, the public national broadcasting corporation enjoys a dominant position that has developed over time. Austria has a small media landscape with powerful influencers.

    Social Media: Vom Kommunikationsrisiko zum Instrument der Krisenkommunikation
    (Springer, 2014)
    ;
    In der Organisationskommunikationsforschung steht derzeit ein Thema ganz oben auf der Tagesordnung: Social Media. Die Studierenden einschlägiger Studienrichtungen widmen sich in zahlreichen Abschlussarbeiten der Fragestellung, wie Social Media in der Organisationskommunikation eingesetzt werden können. Die einzelnen KommunikationspraktikerInnen in Kommunikationsagenturen und Organisationskommunikation sind oft bei weitem weniger angetan von diesem Thema, wobei europaweit gesehen auch die PraktikerInnen der Frage der Integration von digitalen und sozialen Medien höchste Priorität einräumen. Die Bedeutungszuschreibung sinkt aber gegenüber den beiden Vorjahren leicht (Zerfass et al. 2012).

    Potenziale von Social Media für die Medienarbeit in der externen Wissenschaftskommunikation
    (Springer, 2013-05-21)
    ;
    Social Media werden nicht selten im Zusammenhang mit der Frage, ob sie den Journalismus überflüssig machen, diskutiert. Wurde mit der Einführung des Internets noch das Überleben der Tageszeitung thematisiert, so wird mit dem Aufkommen von Social Media der Fortbestand des Journalismus per se in Zweifel gezogen. Dabei wird übersehen, dass Social Media-Anwendungen mittlerweile auch Teil der journalistischen Arbeit sind.
