Was haben bekannte Kinofilme, wie Jurassic Park, Spider Man, Species, Outbreak oder Alien mit der Synthetischen Biologie zu tun? In dieser Session werfen wir einen Blick auf und in eine Reihe von beliebten Blockbustern und diskutieren, anhand von konkreten Beispielen und Filmclips, welche Konzepte und Aspekte der Synthetischen Biologie den ZuseherInnen vermittelt werden. Inwieweit prägen diese Filme unsere Wahrnehmung und unser Verständnis von Synthetischer Biologie und beeinflussen schlussendlich gesellschaftliche Erwartungen oder Ängste? Niedliche Babydinosaurier aus dem Jurassic Park Labor verwandeln sich in gefährliche und furchterregende Ungeheuer; Haifische, die eigentlich zur Behandlung von Krankheiten beitragen sollten, werden zu genmanipulierten Killern; und Frankensteins künstlicher Mensch sinnt auf Rache gegen seinen Schöpfer - Im Zentrum des Vortrages steht die Frage, inwieweit Forschungsprodukte der Synthetischen Biologie in Filmen ein Eigenleben entwickeln und sich von bloßen „Experimentergebnissen“ zu „eigenständigen Hauptpersonen“ wandeln. The book is designed for experts in the tourism industry. The Guidelines collate basic information on the interpretation of cultural heritage in tourism. They consider both tangible and intangible heritage; the book explains the importance, goals, and principles of heritage interpretation. The book deals with the specifics of interpretation in six thematic subtopics: architecture, fine arts, religious monuments, music, local traditions and customs, gastronomy. Interpretation of cultural heritage is currently very topical. Its significance has been enhanced by the activities of the EU in the field of cultural heritage. The year 2018 was declared a European Year of Cultural Heritage. European Heritage Days organized annually also bring up topics closely related to the issues of interpretation of cultural heritage – in 2018 the topic was “Common heritage, common values” and 2020 comes with the topic “Monuments and Education”.240 248 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Pictures of Synthetic Biology(Springer, 2009-05-14); Seiringer, AlexandraThis article is concerned with the representation of Synthetic Biology in the media and by biotechnology experts. An analysis was made of German-language media articles published between 2004 and 2008, and interviews with biotechnology-experts at the Synthetic Biology conference SB 3.0 in Zurich 2007. The results have been reflected in terms of the definition of Synthetic Biology, applications of Synthetic Biology and the perspectives of opportunities and risks. In the media, Synthetic Biology its represented as a new scientific filed of biology with an engineering-like thinking, while the scientists interviewed mostly define Synthetic Biology as contrary to nature and the natural system. Media articles present Synthetic Biology broadly with positive potential and inform the publics less about the potential risks than about the benefits of Synthetic Biology. In contrast, the experts interviewed reflect more on the risks than the opportunities of Synthetic Biology. Item type:Publication, Frankenstein 2.0: Identifying and characterizing synthetic biology engineers in science fiction films(Springer, 2013-03-07); ; Synthetic biology (SB) has emerged as one of the newest and promising areas of bio-technology. Issues typically associated to SB, notably in the media, like the idea of artificial life creation and "real" engineering of life also appear in many popular films. Drawing upon the analysis of 48 films, the article discusses how scientists applying technologies that can be related to SB are represented in these movies. It hereby discusses that traditional clichés of scientists in general tend to be sublated by new stereotypical characterizations. These reflect real trends in bio-technological research such as SB, especially the increased relationship between science and industry. Frankenstein 2.0 looks less like the old, genius yet mad scientist, and follows a more entrepreneurial than academic spirit.Scopus© Citations 16 450 222 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
